Mets Laundry may be few games late to the party this season. But, like the Mets' offense, it'll show up... eventually.
I hope everyone had a beautiful Opening Day, despite the loss. If anyone wants to point me in the direction of the Opening Day Should Be a National Holiday lobby, I’ll bring the paint and poster boards. Seriously, who gets any work done on Opening Day?
I thrifted a whole bunch of jerseys during the offseason, but Matt Harvey’s #33 was my pick for Opening Day. I was kind of surprised at how much hate I got for my choice, but I get it. Matt Harvey, the Dark Knight of Queens, had a career filled with injuries, controversies, and some pretty dark legal issues. I’ll say this though, the anticipation leading up to each Harvey Day was something special. We even got to see him start the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field! The arc of his time in baseball really mirrored Harvey Dent’s words from The Dark Knight:
There are all sorts of parallels to be drawn between Matt Harvey the man, Matt Harvey the pitcher, Bruce Wayne the man, and Bruce Wayne the…bat, but I’ll save that for another newsletter.
We saw the new blue alternate road jerseys throughout Spring Training, but Opening Day gave us our first look at the full away uniforms. I like them even more in action than when they were first leaked. With the team starting the season on a six-game road trip, we'll get a healthy dose of both the primary and alternate away uniforms before they return home in pinstripes. Laundry Lines will continue throughout the regular season (and hopefully the postseason!), as we track the team's performance in each uniform.
