Good Morning and happy Laundry Day.
Fans who attended Mets Amazin’ Day last weekend were treated to a Team Store Warehouse Sale which featured some pretty deep discounts. We know all too well that jerseys are almost never marked down, and if they are, it usually means a player is no longer on the team. When shoppers noticed that Brett Baty’s jersey was at an almost 50% discount, they began wondering if this could mean a trade was imminent. This would have been the strangest way a Met learned they were traded since Wilmer Flores in 2015.
Fortunately for Baty, it turned out that the jersey markdown had nothing to do with a trade. This all makes sense considering Baty has been taking reps at 1B. Baty announced during the event that he struck a deal (the details of which remain unrevealed) with Juan Soto, and gave our new star right fielder number 22. For the upcoming season, Baty will be rocking #7. The choice, he said, was inspired by two players he watched growing up, Jose Reyes and Joe Mauer. Brett will be the first player to wear the number since Marcus Stroman in 2019.
On Saturday, the Mets unveiled a new alternate road jersey for the 2025 season. This pullover style top features a blue base, orange piping, and the 1987 New York script. It’s been quite a while since the Mets had a pullover in their rotation. The team most recently wore one in 2016 as an ode to the 1986 World Series champs.
The MLB only allows teams to keep 5 uniform options at a single time, so time will tell which jersey will be benched to make room for the new road blues.
Current Uniforms:
- Home Pinstripe
- Blue Home Alternate
- Black Home Alternate
- City Connect
- Road Gray
- Road Blue (Added for 2025)
The road blues have proven to be pretty divisive, with a lot of baseball fans comparing them unfavorably to the NBA’s sleeved jerseys. But guess what? I liked the short sleeve NBA jerseys and I like these new Mets jerseys too. Like I need an excuse to purchase some more Mets Laundry…
