After the excitement of the Mets’ unexpected run in the 2024 Postseason, I’ve been missing baseball BAD this offseason. Instead of staring longingly out my window, waiting for the first signs of spring, I did two things.
The first thing was starting this newsletter. Shout out to you for continuing to read this super specific, super niche baseball publication. You are either a hardcore baseball fan or someone very dear to me in my life. Whether you fit into one of those categories or both, I love ya.
The second thing I did was dig up a few classic Mets games on YouTube and score them. This project helped me go back and experience games from before my time or relive ones from earlier in my fandom. It also sparked the idea for Scorecard Week. I’m familiar with the crappy $5 scorebooks from my youth coaching career, but I wanted something a little classier(?) for my own use. My search across the baseball-side of the internet brought me into contact with some really awesome people who are making some really awesome things. I’ve done my best to highlight these folks during Scorecard Week.
Today, I’ve got one more team of scorecard creators that I want to show some love to: Numbers Game from Madison, Wisconsin.
Of all the scorecards I tried out this off-season, I had the most fun with the Palm Slapper. This super sturdy, single-game scorecard is a joy to use. Despite it only being 4x8 inches (folded), it packs a ton of room for scoring. The design includes some great humor as well as basic scoring directions and suggestions.
I can picture myself at Citi Field this summer, slapping my scorecard against my thigh like Kramer at the OTB, as Pete Alonso tries to leg out an extra-base hit.
If you like the design of the Palm Slapper, but are looking for a scorebook experience, Numbers Game also makes a Pocket-Sized Scorebook. This scorebook shares the same scoring system and 4x8 inch dimensions of the Palm Slapper (with a little extra thickness). Both options fit comfortably in your back pocket.
I love a good sticker. If you’re looking for something to adorn your 2025 scorebook with, look no further than the Ball Brain sticker. This giant 4.5-inch sticker will let everyone know that you’re a real…baseball head.
