Mets Laundry #14
This year the Easter Bunny put some organic-wool-dryer-balls in my basket this morning (very progressive of him), so let’s check in on our Mets Laundry!
Despite the frigid Minnesota weather during their recent series, the Mets saw Juan Soto launch a slump-busting home run in their 5-1 win on Monday (4/14). Like most players, he had a hoodie on under his jersey. But unlike most players, he chose to utilize the hood instead of a shiesty (ski mask). Juan putting his hood up over his hat sparked a debate over how to wear the hat hoodie combo. Personally, I have only ever put my hood OVER my hat. Anyone who says the hood should go UNDER the hat is an absolute lunatic. This seems to be the “if a dog wore pants, how would they wear them?” debate of the season.
Someone needs to check in on Steve Gelbs. He wasn’t wearing a ski mask or hoodie while reporting from the stands. He was wearing a full on, personalized, Minnesota Vikings uniform. Helmet, personalized jersey, hand-warmer, the whole deal. Steve is a hardcore Jets fan and does the pre and post-game coverage for the team on SNY, so many Mets/Jets fans saw this as a betrayal. When Gary Cohen asked him if his fandom was wavering, he lamented that “it’s been a long 15 years” since Gang Green’s last playoff appearance. Stay strong Steve!
On Thursday, preeminent New York fashion brand, New York or Nowhere, finally dropped their collaboration with New Era and the New York Mets. After seeing the Knicks…the Rangers…the Yankees…and Saturday Night Live, I was eagerly awaiting the eventual Mets drop. You can see 2016 Hall of Fame inductee, Mike Piazza, show off some of the pieces here. I was at Citi Field on Thursday and every single team store was packed with people trying to get their hands on a NYON hat, hoodie, or jacket. Despite the prices ($160 for a hoodie?), I spend some of that sweet sweet tax return money on a few hats.
Our beautiful shortstop, Francisco Lindor, paid tribute to the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson by sporting a custom glove and cleats on Jackie Robinson Day. The Rawlings REV1X model glove was covered in images from Jackie’s baseball cards through the year, while each finger of the glove represented a specific moment from his career. Lindor’s New Balance cleats were adorned with the words “Thank You Jackie Robinson”.
